Effect of Loading Rate on the Mechanical Properties of Weakly Cemented Sandstone

Weakly cemented rocks are characterized by low strength, loose structure, and easy disintegration. High-intensity mining activities can damage rupture such rock bodies induce damage, as flaking roofing on roadways. To reveal the intensity influence weakly rocks’ deformation a numerical particle flow model of sandstone was established based theory. Uniaxial compression simulation tests were conducted at four loading rates 0.01, 0.1, 0.5, 1 mm/min to study sandstone’s stress–strain relationship, rupture, acoustic emission, energy evolution. The results show that, with an increased rate, uniaxial compressive strength increases exponentially, mode transforms from brittle ductile damage; greater degree crushing range rock. Further, peak hysteresis emission events decreases, number increases; accumulated in increases, thus intensifying damage. Therefore, possibility engineering disasters should be considered when conducting high-speed underground activities.
